Honky Tonkin' Time in Tennessee

I have decided that its sort of time to get my buns in gear and live life a little bit. If you remember a few weeks ago I posted about my friend Mary moving away. It really put things in perspective for me. I don't want to spend my life missing my friends. I don't go out as often as I should but I decided that even with being a mom, that I can go out and have harmless fun which translates to Honky Tonk time. So my partner in crime, Becca are recruiting the troups and going out to see the cowboys. Now before you get all excited, cowboys aren't really my type. I am sure that if you read my blog enough, that I am a tattoo, rock and roll kind of girl, although I may change my ways to that thinking since I haven't had super luck. But that's okay. I am going to be open minded and by open minded I mean, forget the guys right? Let's go line dancin' and people watchin'. Yahoot!

So, in two weeks I will be fretting about my hair, makeup and clothes. I don't usually dress the honky tonk part. I never did. I used to have ton's of "club" clothes, but I got rid of those a long time ago. So, I am not sure what to wear but I am fairly certain I won't be wearing a flat pair of boots. I love them don't get me wrong, but if this girl is going to do it, I am going to do it up right.

Here's what I am thinking. I love graphic tees and I have been eyeing a Johnny Cash or Jack Daniels tee for a while. Pair it with some worn out jeans.

Then add. Some stackables and a great pair of black leather hooker heels and this could be a rockin' outfit.

Although, I don't know if I could find this shirt in time, but it sure would be cool, right? I mean its not your basic country but I can pull it off.

What do you wear when you go out to da club?

Quick Fix

It's Wednesday. Spring has hit Tennessee and even though it usually has to be a thousand degrees before I wear shorts if it's above 60, people rip out the flip flops. Well, not this chickie. But since everyone is showing off their bare skinned legs, today on the Tater Queens Fashion Wednesday, I wanted to share something I found that is Hot Snot.

This stuff has been around for a while and I am sure a million posts written on it but not by me. So ha! I don't get out in the sun alot. And when I say that I mean I don't lie on a float for 6 hours and baste myself like a roasted turkey. I do get out in it, we have a swimming pool and I tan very easy. But I had a skin cancer removed a few years back and that hurt like a mother. Was it because of the sun? No. The tanning bed for which the placement of the cancer was (under my boob) and ever since then I don't take any chances. My body is prone to those types of cells and if I go out I slather on the sunscreen. I still get tan but I do it with protection. Sounds like your first lay.

Any hoot, I bought this stuff about a month ago. I wanted to wear some capri pants so I decided I would whip this tan in a can out. I use self tanner but I needed something quick because my legs were white as a powdered donut. The Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs did the trick.

I first shaved my legs, yes that's a miracle, and then I sprayed it on my dry skin. This stuff went on smooth. It didn't take much. I didn't have one streak. Not one and it had a great color. I used the medium glow. It does have a little shimmer to it, but I put a little lotion on after it had dried and it was awesome. I am sure you could lotion up before you spray it but be sure the lotion is absorbed into your skin. I washed my hands with soap and water and it came right off like last nights prom dress. It also actually stayed on my legs for two days. I recommend this if you are in a rush and need to get our tan on. Now, it is a little pricey at $11.99 a can, but I still have a ton left over.

This Queen gives it 5 out of 5 taters. I actually will probably use this on my whole body if needed. So, prom girls save your money and  your skin because believe me needles in a boob hurt, get this tan in a can. You can hike that dress up and dance the night away and not look like two spaghetti noodles just out of the hot water.

This is your fashion advice on this Wednesday edition. Have you ever used this before? Whatcha think?

Queens out o' here,
Dusty

Mission Complete

When I go on a mission to find something. I become border line obsessed. And it really is about anything in life. My friends tell me all the time I should be a private detective because I can find out where a dog takes a poop at 3 am if I set my mind to it.

I for some reason have been into shoes lately. Mainly because I don't have enough just casual wear with jeans shoes but are dressy enough to still be cool and workable. If you have seen my Pinterest boards you will probably see my shoe pins.

So, here is my muse. I really have been looking and admiring Jennifer Aniston's laid back style. I mean who doesn't love her or a least an outfit or two she's worn. I am traveling on Thursday and have been thinking of what I could wear that's comfy yet still get off the plane ready. I am going to a marketing summit in our Orlando office. It's a laid back atmosphere, business casual type of two days.

I became obsessed with this outfit and these boots and recreating it to my best ability. Which meant hunting down these boots.

Here's the kicker, the boots are called Azzedine Alaia Leather Lace up boots. These pics are from 2010 and these boots, hold on to your wad's were approximately in the $1000 dollar range. Can I get a big "F" that? So, I went on a mission.

That's right. Another Splurge vs. Steal. And guess how much my little steals are? A whopping $19.99 from Kmart. Pretty good dupe if I do say so myself.

This private eye is on a roll for finding the deals and my outfit for Thursday's 6 am flight is complete. So what do you think, I did pretty damn good right? Mission Complete. You want me to find something...let me know. I am on it like a duck on a junebug.

Happy Wednesday,
Dusty

Shoe Doctor

Last week I featured a pair of darling shoes. And yes they are $110 smacks. I still am greatly in love with them but I got so many emails asking me about them that I decided that us dudettes on a budget should have easier access on the wallet. So here's what the Tater Queen found for you. Oh, and your welcome!

The Splurge

The Steals

There are your dupes. Each of these come in another color as well. The top in Navy and the bottom in Gold. I bought the one's from Amazon and they arrived yesterday. I am fairly certain that if someone swipes my purse I will not be running after them, but I like the fact of now being 5'8" while wearing them.

Happy Wednesday,
Dusty

My Boyfriend's Back

My Boyfriend's Back and your gonna be in trouble. Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.. My Boyfriend's Back! I never could figure out what they said during that part of the song, but I always loved it. And one of the things the Queen is loving this week is boyfriend jeans. I remember back ages ago, I loved to wear men's jeans especially from the Gap. There's something about them although I never could figure out the 28 x 32 stuff and just tried on a pair until they fit. Why can't guys just say, "I am a size 18" and be done with the stuff.

Boyfriend jeans are casual and roomy. I love that they are loose and  that Jennifer Aniston wears them to the point of her crotch hangs to her knees and then they become way more appealing to those of us with a milkshake than skinny jeans. I also like the fact that you can dress them up with a blazer or throw on a fun sweatshirt and still be some what fashionable.

Here is an outfit that I planned basically around a pair of boyfriends and guess what? I like that my baby got back has a new boyfriend because these will be a staple in my closet for a long while.

Cute Sweater Alert!

and these delish beauties that need to be in my closet

And there you have it. My ideal outfit with boyfriend jeans. I just might have to own every one of these items. So tell me..do you like boyfriend jeans?

That's it for my fashion update for this week.
The Tater Queen officially endorses the boyfriend jean.

Essie Essie Now You Gotta Kiss Me!

Wednesday! Tater Queens picks. But a little back story. Not that it will make any good sense. It actually doesn't but it's a quirk. I paint my toe nails but not my finger nails. I don't know why but I have never liked painting my fingernails. For one, I am not that coordinated with my left hand, so when I do my right it always looks like a 4 year old did it. I paint it on and then it feels heavy and drives me to the point of picking it off. Sometimes I will put a clear coat on or a very pale pink. I feel like I have man hands so it never looks or feels right, but I yearn for it. My fingernails grow so fast probably from all the cheese I eat. I can't drink milk, to be blunt, it gives me the Hershey squirts, but they grow so fast that it almost doesn't make sense to paint them, but I really want too.

I used to get fake nails and then once I decided to save my money I noticed my nails were like razor blades underneath. It's a no win. But its one of those things I really want to do to be cool.

So, I am always on the lookout for a cool toe color. Unless my feet are super tan, I like dark colors. Yes, the fashion foe pah of even in the summer. Fashion rules can suck it. I like dark toes, but Essie makes me want to try new colors for the summer. My go to color is OPI Lincoln Park After Dark or OPI I Brake For Manicures, but after seeing Essie's Little Brown Dress and finding it for $3 smacks at the encouragement of a Twitter pal, Marina, I am now in love with Essie polishes. Here are a few that the Queen is digging....

Splash of Grenadine

Absolutely Shore

No More Film..(my fav)

Don't you love these? Now let me clarify. If you have baby blue or yellow toes..I am out! If your toes start looking like a Bob Marley hat then I am unattractive to the tootsies.

But these are fun and most likely that bottom color will be on my list. So tell me what are your favorite polishes? I love new colors and am up for new things except something that looks like fun dip.

Happy Wednesday from the Tater Queen,
Dusty

Sweat It On

I love a good sweatshirt even though most of the time I look like a linebacker in them. I most often buy them over sized because I like them big which may be why I look like a bed in a bag.

On the weekends, you will most likely find me in a pull over slouchy sweater or a sweatshirt. Comfort is the key and sweatshirts always remind me of the 80's. They were pretty cool then but thank goodness they have gotten a little more in style.

So this week, the Tater Queen's Fashion Inspiration is the sweat shirt. I give you some of my favs.

Give me a skull on any item of clothing and I am sold!

Source: hm.com via Girls Love on Pinterest

I don't do a lot of camping but this makes me want to

Oh La La..Love!

So, go on and get cozy. Lounge or throw on a plaid shirt underneath any of these and have a fun date or girls  game night. These are conversation pieces just by themselves. And the great thing about a sweatshirt is you keep them forever. I have some I still wear that are probably 10 years old. You basically have to get into a cat fight to destroy one. Do you have a favorite sweatshirt?

The Queen says, Happy Wednesday!

Everybody All Skate

This year is all about fun. A few weeks ago, I told you how I was thinking outside my box in fashion and have been looking for fun things I would normally admire but never buy. Then came the sneaker wedge and since then it's been fun trying to put things together that are casual cool.

Roller skating back in the day was the place to be. Did this girl get a new pair of skates at 13 years old? Sure did. White with blue wheels and blue pom poms with bells. I was slicker than shit on a cats behind. Skating then became more about what couple was in the corner getting to first base and a LOT of kissing and then you out grow it. I still like to go roller skating now that I have the Kid. So, when I came across this t-shirt, I was smitten. I love novelty tees.

This tee

A pair of throw back 70's Flairs

and the new wedge sneakers

This to me is fun style. Everyone kept saying "what will you wear them with?" Here ya go! A throw back salute to the days of being a girl thinking she was cool. Of course, I also had the Madonna bob with lots of curls. Strike a pose.

Here's the kicker. I was going to buy this tee but it's an extra small. So if anyone knows where I could buy another one in a medium or large (because I dry everything in the dryer on high in truth because I am a lazy), I would love ya for life.

Happy Wednesday from the Tater Queen! What's your throwback outfit?

One Two Buckle My Shoe

Before I get to the normal fashion post for Wednesday, I thought I would go ahead and address yesterday's post. Although I said I was going to allow Anonymous comments on my blog I changed my mind. Why did I let Mr. Impotent win? Because I feel like my readers shouldn't be distracted by stupid. I also feel that if this fart blossom can come over and comment, he also sees and can click on other's blogs and stalk them with his crazy antics. So for the sake of my true readers, I am not allowing anony comments unless I instruct otherwise. We read others comments and search for new blogs this way and I don't want people to feel like they can't comment on my blog freely without spam jerks. So you win, Mr. I will never marry an American woman. I hope you and your hand enjoy a life filled with dry chapped skin.

Okay, now on to the new Tater Queen. I am going to be doing alot of different things this year. No I didn't make resolutions but a list of things I want to accomplish in 2013. One of the things that I want to do is think outside my box a little bit when it comes to fashion. I am a boho kind of girl being a product of the very early 70's. I love classic and whimsical styles and even though I love to look at other people wearing modern type pieces, it's not in my norm to purchase these. It doesn't mean I am going to run out and buy a chevron dress or a a scarf that covers my whole head and I look like the blue turtle neck guy from Fat Albert. It means that I am going to try different things that I normally wouldn't do. Of course this all depends on my diet and exercise plan. So far so good, except I did eat a piece of pizza last night. Oopsie.

For a few months now my friend Lindsay and I have had much debate about these wedge sneaker shoes. At first, we both hated them and then during Christmas as I was glued to Pinterest like dogshit on a the back of poodle fur, I started seeing some that I really liked. She still wasn't buying it. So, I received a few gift cards for Christmas, did a little research and found a pair that were on sale for $30 smacks. I tried them on, left, texted Lindsay, put it on Instagram and with the overwhelming majority, went back and bit the bullet and bought them. She still wasn't convinced but allowed it. And guess what? I like them. Now do I still like the bright blue ones or ones that look like I should be playing in the NBA? Uh that's a negative, but I don't look like a hoochy moma drug dealer and they are really cuter on.

So, yes, I went shopping in my sweats, no makeup, you should have seen my hair, but I caught a great deal and a cute pair of shoes (or two) that are outside my comfort zone. They do feel somewhat like wearing other wedge type shoes, a little hard, but I put insoles in them and they are comfy. I went outside my normal and it felt great. New beginnings are cool. And these would defiantly kick someone's buttouski.

Are you taking risks in fashion this year? If so, tell me. Also, follow me on Pinterest. I am a maniac on this site.

Happy Wednesday,
Dusty

The Purty Issue 2012

A few weeks ago I gave you the best of 2012 beauty. This week the Tater Queen is giving you what I found or find to be the best in accessories and shoes.

Accessories

The bubble necklace - Good gawd I haven't jumped on this bandwagon yet, but everyone had this little bobble. In any color imaginagable. I shall endulge at some point.
Arm Candy- this year was all about the Mr. T starter kit. If you could pile it on one arm up to your elbow this was the ticket.
Michael Kors watch - I am sure that if you are a fashion blogger and loaded you had this watch. It is on my wish list, but in gold. I like the silver.
Scarves - If you don't have at least 10 you better go get some. I have two hangers literally full. I personally like the homemade knit ones and my friend Lorraine is a master. I have about 6 she has made me and wear them constantly. Scarves are an any time of year accessory.
Michael Kors handbag - This has to be one the most pinned items on Pinterest. I would love it to be on my arm but I hear it sold out. Who cares! Find it and send it to me.

Shoes

Old Navy Flip Flops - Every color. You choose. Flip flops were a necessity this summer. I myself have four different colors.
Hooker Heels - Every woman whether you can walk or break your neck in them should own a pair of heels. I wear these with jeans and they rock. Thank you Lauren Conrad.
Converse - Trusty Chuck Taylors. I love mine. I have a blue pair and white is on my wish list. Fun is what these tennies are and cool is what you really are when you wear them.
Flats - I do not own a pair of Leopard flats. I have some wedges and they are pretty hot. But these were everywhere this year even in the winter the chicks are diggin' them.
Moto boots - Love Love Love!  You can dress these up anyway you choose. With leggings, skinny jeans or shorts. A little bit sexy and a lot rock n roll.

Hunter Boots - Did you really think I was going to let a post go without mentioning the best gift ever. Just get them. I don't care if you live in 110 degree heat. They are Hot Snot. And they just came out with the color mint. Ready Set Go!
Riding Boots - Everyone needs a pair of riding boots. These are on my wish list. These are a little pricey from Frye but riding boots with a sweater, a scarf and some jeans tucked in snug with some socks and you can't go wrong day or night.

There you have what I found hot this year and some things I wish for. Tell me what shoes and accessories you continued to go back to this year or in 2013.

Happy Wednesday,
Dusty

Lumberjack Style

Tater Queen here and since, I received my faboo Hunter boots all I can think about is how to style them. I know it's a little crazy but pinkyswear totally true. But, I also am looking forward to winter season because I like being cozy. My mom took me shopping for my birthday and this is what I got.

I am for some reason really into flannel shirts this year. I am positive this will not be my only purchase and poncho's. Put this beauty with a white cotton turtleneck or button down  underneath and I am all set for chopping wood. Well, that won't happen but I could at least look smashing at a cabin in front of a cozy fire with my Hunters on of course.

What's your go to cozy cabin style?

Happy Wednesday,
Dusty

PS..I know you want to see me in those fantab boots, but the weather isn't cooperating here.

I Got Punk'd

The Conspirators

The Evil Seven as I now will refer to them decided to get me good for my birthday. Wanna know how? Take a look.

Now that you all have seen this dingbat bawl over these boots. And if you are new to this blog. I have been obsessed with the boots for a very long time and honestly, dreamed about them but never thought I would ever own a pair unless I crapped a money tree. So, let's point out a few things. How adorable is my son? Did you see me look on the inside of them? I have never seen a real pair before, only on the internet. I hugged them. I said a cuss word and then told my kid not to say it (great mother) and I also forgot he existed because I totally didn't even pay attention to what he was saying.  It's like I gave birth to them. I lost my self. I turned into a 12 year old meeting a Jonas brother. And it got worse after the video went off.

To Justyn, Makaila, Shannon, Lindsay, Jes, Shanna and Jamie, my heart or words will never be able to thank you enough. Miles separate us only. We are not just blogging friends, we are now forever linked. I am just a girl, I am just a friend. The misfit in the greatest company of women. Somehow, I don't think I will ever be worthy, but somehow I know in my heart I will love you all forever.

Signing off this Friday for the best birthday week,
Dusty

The Perfect Stache

It's Wednesday and time for the Tater Queen to deliver another outfit. One of which I would wear probably over and over if I had these items in my closet. Everyone keeps asking me what I am going to do for my birthday? The answer is probably nothing except go to dinner with my son and maybe a few friends later on, but for now I just want it to be quiet. At 41, do you really want to blow it out and feel like crapola the next day? Not really and I am celebrating that I already received the greatest gift seven years ago. But if I was going out I think this would be the perfect outfit for din din with the peeps.

First would be this great t-shirt

Then this plaid shirt underneath

Add these skinny ass dark grey cords

With these fantabulous Frye Boots

And there you have it, a few drinks, good times, gossip and friends. Fun outfit huh! What more could a girl ask for? All of you here with me.

Happy Halloween,
Dusty

Boot Scoot

Wednesday is here and Tater Queen's fashion update. Of course it's October and the beginning of fall here and in some places out West its snowing and starting to get colder. I don't think any part of the US can make up its mind on what season it is. The leaves have just began to turn here and now they are falling off the trees. The rain has been insane. So, I thought today would be a good day to introduce some snow slash rain boots since we are all up to our eyeballs in "who knows what the weather will bring!"

Ever been to LL Bean or ordered on line? These beauts are on my list of wants.
Perfect for rain, sleet and snow. I also see these with some rolled up boyfriend jeans
and some scrunchy socks

These are from Target and affordable

Who knew Crocs could be so cute and I hear these puppies are warm

And finally... I couldn't let a boot post go without my FAVS!!!!!

Hunters, Black Original, No gloss, Thank you very much

I shall sleep with these if I ever own a pair!

So there you have it, the Queens picks for boots this season of rain or snow. Have you got a favorite?

Happy Wednesday,
Dusty

It's a Cover Up

Tater Queen here, and lets get this day on and over with because it means Friday is close. I am always cold. Even in the summer, I am in long sleeves especially in the evening or inside. I run a heater under my desk all year long because I work with men beasts and they are always hot.

This Fall I am loving the over sized sweaters. Something you can throw a tshirt on and some jeans, boots and off I go.. to a somewhere warm hopefully. Here are just a few that I am cozying up too.

My FAV!!

Love how she added a broach as a clasp

                                       Campfire and Hot Cocoa worthy

So with these, I could stay toasty until spring or at least Tater Queen fashionable, right?

Do you love the oversize sweaters? Do you wear them just in the fall or all winter.

Happy Wednesday,
Dusty

Fetish of Sorts

I have a little bit of a rock & roll side to me although you probably wouldn't have never guessed it right? I love pretty classical pieces like a flowy sundress or jeans and tshirts, but I also have a fetish. I love skulls and crossbones especially if the skull has a little bow on its head. I once wanted a tattoo like Rhianna's on her ankle (google it). So, for this weeks Tater Queens Fashion Inspirations I give you something to bring out your inner rebel. It's okay to be a little bit on the edge and still feel classic.

I think this would suit me just fine. Of course, I cannot afford those pants. I would have to work a street corner for a month, but they are pretty Hot Snot but I would have to find a knock off and that sweater should just appear in my closet.  So what do ya think? Do you believe me now, that this Tater Queen is a rebel? You could see me in this right? Agree or I am gonna have to take you out back.

Tell me, do you have a style that nobody would think was you?

Rock on, loves,
Dusty

Oh and here's proof of my fetish. I used to make these bags and sell them..

Black n White and Butt all over

Time for Tater Queens Fashion Inspirations. I know Queen for today. Call me crazy but I am for some odd reason wanting a pair of these pants. I don't know if I am channeling my inner pirate or being a little rock & roll but I love them.

I mean with a one shoulder blouse, wouldn't this rock the casba? I know you think I am cray cray.

I guess I should look at it this way, vertical stripes are slimming and I am sure that these pants would make my J Lo butt look like a target, but sure would be fun for a night out with the girls and a little boogie down time. And yes I admit it, I would wear these just for the reaction. I am a rebel like that!

Tell, me would you wear something out of your comfort zone?

Peace, Love and Rock n Pants,
Dusty
