I am so lucky in many ways. I have a great man in my life with a beautiful son and our happiness is well deserved. But in our lives as women, we simply have to have people in our lives that also complete us in different ways. Most women are of the emotional breed. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, by that I mean psycho bitches and I know a few. But of the norm we tend to surround ourselves with people that get you. That see inside you, know everything about you and accept you for who you are. Friendships are funny things. One wrong conversation or action and it can be gone and you don't know what happened.
I am a very, very passionate person. I will fight a giant if I or my family feels threatened. But I also am the same way about my friends.
This week I received this sweet gift in the mail. It immediately made me happy and then I cried because she took the time to give me something that reminded her of our friendship.
Her name is Starr. She is truly an amazing woman. She's strong yet vulnerable. She's my champion yet makes me see both sides. She's beautiful and one of the smartest women I know. I love that she understands me inside and out. She accepts that I am somewhat of a whack but never says it although I am sure the bubble above her head says, "crayzeee!" I love making her laugh and admire her so much. She is 900 plus miles away from me, so I can't hug her for all that she does on a daily basis. I can only savor a few minutes a day and hear her voice. She brings me calm. But what I love the most is that she is so giving. Giving of her time to her family, her friends and her daughter. Giving of every single part of her heart.
I have some of the most amazing friends and now new friends that I hope I become close with, but you only have a true handful of people that you would trust with your life, that if you called no matter how far away they would hop a plane or drive the distance. Friends that any time of the day or night they are there. The trick to this is, you have to return those feelings in your heart so that all that they have given to you, you give back. No questions asked, no reservations or doubts.
I love this friend of mine. Her note with the book said it best. My heart, protective of you, loves you, needs you for the rest of my life......
That's right my shining Starr. Forever & Always! My friend and my heart! I love you! Thank you for everything you do.
Hug your friends, tell them you love them and never lose sight of why you were friends with that person in the first place. Happy Weekend!
Dusty
So sweet! You are lucky to have a friend like that!!
ReplyDeletei am out of sarcasm right now. there is nothing better than a good friend. starr sounds amazing. tell her to start a blog so i can be her friend too.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful! This reminds me of one of my friends, who was living in England. She sent me the loveliest card... when I opened it, I cried. It's little things like that that really strengthen friendships... so much more personal than Facebook.

Such a lovely friendship, especially to survive such a long distance. And so thoughtful to send a card. I'm pretty sure it's one of the most meaningful ways to connect (not in person at least) that we have these days.
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet! What a thoughtful friend, and a post from you! Wishing you a happy weekend!

this was so sweet. thanks for sharing with us!!
It is so hard maintaining those long distanced friendships (my bestie and I live seriously far apart (she in NH and me in Australia...gulp).
ReplyDeleteyour friend sounds so nice :) long distance friendsships suck, but it's awesome/you know when you have a real friend when you meet after an extended period of time and it's as if no time has passed, you pick up where you left off.
ReplyDeleteThis post moved me. I have a Starr in my life and my heart aches for those who do not.
