The Mice Will Play

Vacation.. the definition results in relaxation. The people that make up my blog header minus the two worthless guard dogs took a little vacay with some of my kin folk. It was an adventure to say the least. Theme parks, go carts, rain and enough food to the point that I am pretty sure I could sustain life for a week on what I consumed in calories. Now more than ever I realize that diet and exercise should be apart of my world. I didn't eat jello but feel like it. Anyway, it was a short trip, and while I was away the mice will play. I had two great Hot Tamales which everyone showed the love. Thank you everyone for reading that series. I have had such a great response from it. I hope it continues to showcase our friends.

Now back to vacation. Why does it never seem like when you go on vacation, it is vacation? You have to travel, that takes up a day going and coming. Then you get there and  you have big plans to sleep in, relax, have a drink or two and it never fails its go, go, go. There was a time difference which didn't help and I got up every morning at the butt crack  mainly because the time change screwed me up and I shared a king size bed with the live birth control that slept in the middle of us. If you don't know what sleeping with a wild bear feels like, let me know I will send the kid over to sleep with you. At one point I woke up to him blankly staring into my face. I don't think heart attacks are on the to do list while on vacation.

I mean really vacation is supposed to be fun, yet I am exhausted. And its meant to revive your spirits, refresh your body and rest your mind. My mind says your belly is beyond its extension limit, you need fresh underwear and my house needs cleaning from being gone only four days. Have you ever thought of what other cultures of people do on vacation? I mean what do Amish people do on vacation?  Do they take the horse and buggy to the beach? Snake handlers. Do they reserve hotels that allow pets? And Eskimos. Wouldn't you think that just hitting a local hot spot with a heater and some whiskey be sufficient? How would an Eskimo even shop for a bikini? "Excuse me Miss, you have anything with fur trim and polar bears on the top and bottoms?"

Don't get me wrong. I love vacation. We usually don't take long vacations in the summer. I love to save my days at Christmas and start the new year refreshed. Again, a vacation in which I am tired from shopping, taking down the tree, going from place to place, more eating. See! Is it ever really vacation? I guess you just have to say that anything is better than setting at a desk and staring at a computer is vacation. So I will take it. And by the time you have read this, I have collapsed in the comfort of my own bed without the wilder-beast kicking me in the kidneys.

What are your vacation plans? Anything spectacular...rest I hope.

Happy Monday!
Dusty

  1. Yes! Vacations are tricky like that! I think I try to balance my vacations with what I like to call "adventure vacations" which is the fun exploring-a-place-I've-never-been-to vacation. Then there's the I-need-a-freakin-break vacation in which I want to go to a near by nothing fancy beach and pretend to be a beach bum for a couple of days to reset my mind and relax my body! Sounds like you had a fun vacation though- I haven't been to a theme park in a long time! I wanna go!

  2. Haha I like staycations best for relaxation. Vacations as you've pointed out can be as busy as working!! What I want to know is didja scream and wake up the whole house when you awoke to your son staring??!!

  3. Is it soo lame, my idea of an ideal vacation is sleeping all day to the sound of the ocean. That's it. :)

I know exactly what you mean.. I'm glad you had fun though!

  4. I hear you! Vacations can be stressful. I really want to go on a cruise and just lay out and read a book all day...sounds perfect.

  5. My dear, I think this is a reminder from life to slow down! Ya gotta have days of gogogo but reserve a few (best at the end) of the vacation to do NOTHING. Wanna read a book? done. Wanna slam banana ice cream in bed while watching car shows? okay. Just take life with a few more syl....a...b....les. Aren't you southern people supposed to live life slow?

  6. I am so sorry but I snorted at the wild bear part. My daughter is the same way, all legs and arms. I had the luxury of sharing a bed with her, husband, and dog this weekend so I hear your pain!

I love to vacation but I know what you are saying about not relaxing too much. But I am a go, go, go kind of gal so I like it that way.

Welcome back to the real world! I am glad you had a good time with your family!

  7. I used to be a go go go kind of vacation person. But I am definitely starting to see the merits in having a relaxing do nothing kind of vacation. Cause I agree with you... they hardly ever feel like vacations.

I'm really bad about not having the house clean before we go on vacation. So we come home and it looks like a tornado has run through the house. Good times.

  8. I went on a cruise a few years ago and slept 70% of the time and felt terrible for "wasting my vacation." But, what the hell...it was MY vacation and if I want to sleep, then sleep I will! Hope you are getting some well deserved rest!

  9. oh man, Dan and I have some good "discussions" on this very topic quite often. To me a vacation is sitting on my butt and watching movies (or cleaning my house ... yes, that would be a vacation for me). Or I could do a beach vacation and lay on the beach for 5 days straight. But the problem is, if we go somewhere, we will be doing every single tour and every single activity that town/city/resort has to offer. A vacation to Dan is being on the move. blah.

  14. When the nephew sleeps over he manages to take up 2/3 of our king size bed... he's 3 years old. How can people so little take up so much space? I always think I need a vacation after my vacations and I also believe that we should have Mondays off so we can recover from our weekends. That would be just a dream.

  15. We just got back from vacation too... they always seem so rushed! I know a lot of people who take an extra vacation day and just use it as a vacation to recover from their vacation. Glad you are back safe and sound, and that you guys had a busy, but fun trip!

  16. I totally know the feeling! It's like the old saying goes..."I need a vacation from my vacation". I have spent all day cleaning, doing laundry and resting from our mini vacay this weekend. As sad as it sounds...it's almost not even worth it. And where are the pictures! I need to see wild bear in bed and you on a go-kart!!!
